Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a significant appearance at the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, where he garnered attention by donning an ‘Assamese Gamusa.’ During the summit, PM Modi took part in the unveiling ceremony of a statue honoring Mahatma Gandhi in Hiroshima. Following the inauguration, he addressed the media briefing, dressed in the traditional Gamusa.

In a tweet, PM Modi expressed the profound message conveyed by the statue in Hiroshima, stating, “This bust in Hiroshima gives a very important message. The Gandhian ideals of peace and harmony reverberate globally and give strength to millions.”

Notably, PM Modi’s visit to Hiroshima marks a significant milestone as it is the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited the city since India’s nuclear tests in Pokhran in 1974. This visit serves as an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations between India and Japan, particularly in the context of the G7 summit.
