The Assam government has announced its plans to set up more Sainik Schools in the state, according to the Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The decision was taken to encourage the best talent to join the Indian Armed Forces. Sarma discussed the plan with the State Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu and other officials in a review meeting.

The meeting also covered topics such as Adarsh Vidyalayas, the establishment of more BEd colleges and teaching posts, and special quotas in professional colleges for six communities.

Last year, land allotment processes in five locations were completed, and Pegu had announced the state government’s decision to establish five additional Sainik Schools after the Centre’s approval to set up more schools on a PPP mode. The modalities will soon be finalized with the Union Defence Ministry. Currently, there are 33 Sainik Schools in the country.
