Two Assam swimmers have fulfilled their quest for a world record by swimming 110 kilometres from Colombo to Chennai in just 19 hours.

Babul Gurung, a swimming master, and one of his students, Kasturi Gogoi, began swimming from Munar Island in Colombo, Sri Lanka, during the evening hours on Tuesday, March 29.

The Assam student-teacher duo swam across the Indian Ocean to reach the Indian shoreline near Archul Mulai in Tamil Nadu’s capital city of Chennai on Wednesday, March 30.

On Wednesday, the trainer Gurung and his trainee Gogoi successfully finished their journey, setting a global record that will be entered into the Guinness Book of Records.

Both swimmers overcame all hurdles during their 19-hour voyage, covering a total distance of 110 kilometres.
