At least eight persons, including two minors, were killed in lightning and severe storm accompanied by heavy showers in different places of Assam.

Summer storms and rains known as ‘Bordoisila’ have pounded numerous districts of Assam since Thursday, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

Four people were killed in Dibrugarh on Friday owing to a big storm, according to the ASDMA report, which was updated till 8 p.m. on April 15. A 12-year-old was among the victims.

On Thursday, three more people died in the Barpeta district due to the storm, while a 15-year-old boy died in the Goalpara district due to lightning, according to the ASDMA.

It left a trail of destruction in addition to human casualties, including damage to dwellings, uprooting trees, and snapping electric lines.

In the previous three days, the storm uprooted scores of trees and dozens of electric poles, causing damage to many houses in various locations.

During the last two days, at least 7,378 houses and other businesses have been damaged across the state, according to the report.
