Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma spent time with exotic birds and other animals during the Magh Bihu festivities. Some of the parrots even perched on his shoulders, and he fed the zoo’s macaws.

The chief minister went to the Assam State Zoo in Guwahati on Sunday to check on the progress being made there. According to the CM, the zoo will be transformed into a well-known tourist attraction.

He spoke with officials and explored what additional facilities might be built. A botanical garden and a night safari are among the anticipated additions to the zoo.

“Had a refreshing feeling as I visited the @assamzoo, having glimpses of the animals and birds from close proximity. Took stock of the Zoo’s condition in its entire stretch and decided that our Govt will transform it into one of the most attractive tourist destinations of the region,” tweeted CM Sarma.
