Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter on Sunday to announce that the state had recorded a 575% increase in tourist arrivals in the year 2022-23, with over one crore tourists visiting the state.
The rise in numbers has been attributed to various factors, including the state’s improved tourism infrastructure, a robust website providing detailed information about destinations, and online booking facilities.
Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) MD Padmapani Bora noted that of the 11.8 million tourists who visited the Northeast, Assam contributed around 10 million. Bora also highlighted the zero deaths of rhinos in recent years, with only one case of poaching reported recently. This absence of rhino deaths has boosted tourist interest in the state, with Kaziranga National Park being a popular destination for tourists.
