According to Hazarika, the Central funds that had been suspended since 2016 due to irregularities committed by the previous government between 2011 and 2016 were released by the Jal Shakti Ministry one and a half months ago as a result of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s tireless efforts.

He said, “Due to the relentless efforts in the last one year, the Central Government has released funds to the tune of Rs.125 crores to the State Water Resources Department.”

Taking to Twitter, the minister further stated, “Expressed sincere thanks on behalf of entire Assam to Hon’ble Union Jal Shakti Min. Shri @gssjodhpur for this much needed support & urged him for more financial assistance in the coming days for countering the flood menace.”

The Minister elaborated on the Chief Minister’s initiative to consider a comprehensive scheme to reduce water in rivers during the monsoons by constructing ponds nearby.
