A recent report by Cross Dependency Initiative (XDI) shows that nine Indian states, including Assam, are among the top 50 states globally that are most vulnerable to climate change.

According to the XDI report, Assam is the 28th most climate-vulnerable state in the world.

The report, called the 2023 Gross Domestic Climate Risk Report, identifies the nine states as Punjab, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Kerala, and Gujarat. The report ranks the states according to their damage ratio, which is the annual average loss from extreme weather damage expressed as a fraction of the replacement cost of the property. The report calculates climate risks for over 2,600 states and provinces in 2050, and identifies as many as 114 regions of the top 200 at risk by aggregated damage ratio (ADR).
