In an effort to establish India as a drone technology hub, the northeast now has its first remote pilot training school in Guwahati.

For the project, the Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd (AMTRON) has partnered with EduRade, a start-up housed at IIT-Guwahati, and the IIM-Calcutta Innovation Park.

Keshab Mahanta, the information technology minister of Assam, officially inaugurating the drone school on Tuesday, said, “Youths, after getting training from experts, can work anywhere in the country and in any sector.”

The school will have trainers certified by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for conducting the pilot licence training program.

The facility is located in Tech City, and the Assam Forest School in Jalukbari serves as its flying ground.

According to the officials, AMTRON has acquired two indigenous micro drones (under 2 kilogramme) and two small drones (between 2 and 25 kg) for training purposes.

In India, the first drone training school to receive DGCA approval opened its doors in Haryana last year.
