The Assam Government has stated that beginning today, for every tree cut for construction or road projects in non-forest regions, the government will plant ten new trees to increase green cover areas.
Today, at the Cabinet Meeting, the decision was made.
The government has launched a new scheme called “Compensatory Plantation” to address the environmental consequences of infrastructure expansion by implementing Sustainable Development measures.
Many Guwahati residents have recently expressed their displeasure with the trees that had to be destroyed to make way for the new flyover at Zoo Road Tiniali.
All divisional forest officers have been instructed to complete the demand for 1:10 tree planting.
