Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that a new law will be introduced to restrict land transactions within an eight-kilometer radius of Batadrava Than premises, barring non-indigenous communities from buying or selling land in the area. He instructed the Nagaon District Commissioner to withhold approval for such transactions until the law is enacted.

CM Sarma stated that this legislation will be presented in the Assam assembly by February next year. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Batadrava Than beautification and upgrade project on the occasion of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev’s 575th birth anniversary.

The inauguration included the unveiling of a Satriya Sora, a conference hall, the Damodar Ata Tourist Guest House, and an office complex. CM Sarma also formally initiated a year-long celebration marking the 575th birth anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev.

Furthermore, CM Sarma revealed that the Assam government plans to beautify 21 other sites associated with Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev in addition to Batadrava Than.
