The Assam government has given strict directives to stop the illegal killing or sacrifice of cows, calves, camels, and other animals in celebration of the holy day of Eid al-Adha.
The Animal Welfare Board of India and the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy, Government of India, urged the state government to ensure that there is no illegal killing or offering of animals during Eid al-Adha and that strict action be taken in case any violation is discovered, according to a letter from the joint secretary, department of home & political, to all deputy commissioners and superintendents of police in all districts of Assam.
