After failing to pass her matriculation exams, a Class 10 student in the Sapekhati area of Upper Assam’s Charaideo district set herself on fire on Tuesday.

According to reports, the 16-year-old victim was taken to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in a severe condition with more than 50% of her body with burn injuries.

When the results of her High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exams were eventually released on Tuesday, she was discovered to have failed four out of six subjects.

She returned home depressed after learning the results, according to reports, and got a kerosene container from the house and poured it on herself before lighting herself on fire with a matchstick.

The young girl is a student at Sapekhati, Assam’s Rohan High School.

According to reports, the girl has been brought to the intensive care unit (ICU) and is still in critical condition.
