India wins Bronze in the Women Elite Section, defeating Uzbekistan, to kick off a strong start at the Asian Track Cycling Championships.

After a 17-year gap, the Indian team won a medal in the senior women’s event at any Asian Track Cycling Championships.

In senior women’s 4km team pursuit event, the Indian riders consisting of Assam’s Chayanika Gogoi in the lead, alongside Rejiye Kh Devi, Meenakshi and Monika Jat outclassed Uzbekistan riders Evegeniya Golotina, Madina Kakhkhorova, Margarita Misyurina, Yania Kuskova to secure a bronze medal by clocking 4:44.699s.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated the Indian team on Twitter, writing, “India flags off a fine start at the Asian Track Cycling Championships by winning Bronze in the Women Elite Section beating Uzbekistan.”

“With Assam’s Chayanika Gogoi in the lead, the team also set a national record of covering 4 km in 4.44 minutes,” he wrote.

“Congratulations Team 🇮🇳 ! 👏👏” CM Sarma added.
