Assam Government has ordered that the caution “Don’t Drink & Drive, Stay Alive” must be written in large, obvious letters on every label of every type of alcoholic beverages sold in the State of Assam.
State Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya gave the Excise Department this directive.
The directive stated, “As you are aware that Assam records an unfortunate number of unwanted accidental deaths across the state every year caused due to ‘drinking and driving’. Hence in line with our government’s efforts to prevent such deaths and ensure proper road safety rules are being followed across the state, you are hereby requested to implement that all alcoholic beverages be affixed with an uniform slogan, preferably “Don’t Drink & Drive, Stay Alive” in bold and visible letters in each and every label of every category. This message shall sensitize all alcohol consumers and make them aware about the ill effects of drinking and driving.”
