The Director General of Police of Assam, GP Singh, has suggested a list of books for those aspiring to take the UPSC and APSC exams in the state.

He shared this list on his social media handle, and it includes books on polity, modern history, culture, geography, general science, environment, and economy.

He has listed the following books for UPSC and APSC aspirants:

1. Polity- Laxmikanth
2. Modern History- Spectrum
3. Culture- Nitin Singhania + Class 11 Fine Arts book
4. Geography- New NCERTs 6-12
5. General Science- NCERTs 6-10
6. Environment- Various chapters in New Geography NCERTs and Science NCERTs (covered above)
7. Economy- NCERT Class 11 and 12 (Macroeconomics only) + Current Affairs/ Newspaper which you have already been doing (no extra preparation needed)

If you have time and you have covered/ revised the above, you can do advanced material as follows:
1. Polity- Indian Year Book (IYB) Chapter 1,2,3
2. History- Old NCERTs Class 11 and 12 and Tamil Nadu Board for reference
3. Culture- CCRT website
4. Geography- GC Leong
5. General Science- selected topics from Class 11 and 12 books- like Gene Editing and Evolution
6. Environment- ShankarIAS + Schedule and Index of major environmental acts
7. Economy- SriramIAS + Economic Survey
8. Map work – General Idea of World and Indian Map, Protected areas and associated rivers, Ramsar sites, selective reading from Majid Hussain’s book on Maps
