On Friday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma filed a criminal defamation action against Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in Kamrup (Rural) CJM court over his claims of corruption against the Assam CM’s family members.
If the defamation is proven to be accurate, Sisodia may face up to two years in prison. The court has set July 22 as the date for Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s initial deposition.
Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, the Assam Chief Minister’s wife, had already launched a Rs 100 crore defamation suit against Sisodia.
Earlier, Sisodia slammed the BJP during the press conference, questioning why the party remained mute on the suspected PPE supply scandal involving the Assam CM’s wife. Sisodia claimed that Sarma had awarded a contract for personal protective equipment (PPE) kits to a company connected to his wife at above-market costs.
