Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has formally appealed to the Election Commission to arrange the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state prior to the Bihu festival in mid-April. CM Sarma expressed concerns that conducting voting during the festive season might be inappropriate, as people actively engage in celebrations during Bihu.

Sarma conveyed, “The state government has already urged the EC to complete the election in the state before the Bihu festival. In Assam, the lively Bihu celebrations create a festive atmosphere, making political discussions less fitting.”

He informed reporters that an Election Commission delegation is set to visit Assam on March 5, intending to confer with the state administration about the Lok Sabha polls. Sarma indicated, “The Chief Secretary will reiterate our appeal to the EC team. If feasible, we would prefer concluding the election before Bihu.”
