Assam Cabinet decided on Friday that final exams will be administered to students in classes 5 and 8; those who do not pass will remain in those classes and not be promoted.
The Assam Cabinet made this decision on Friday and was announced by education minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu.
Earlier, even if a student till Class 9 does not pass their final exams, they were commonly promoted to the next class.
Now, for Classes 5 and 8, nevertheless, this won’t be applicable any longer. When this new measure will be put into effect is unclear.
Assam is gradually moving toward the new National Education Policy (NEP), and as a result, the education sector in the State has seen a number of new changes.
