The CGST and Customs Field Formations set fire to a large amount of ganja on Wednesday in Assam.

According to reports, the total amount of cannabis burned was 7472.386 kg, valued at Rs 8.78 crore. From 2009 through 2022, these substances were seized from various locations.

On June 8, Customs had chosen 14 different places across the country to burn the marijuana, dubbing it as Drugs Destruction Day. Among the 14 places across the country, one was an iron factory located in Guwahati.

The seized narcotics and psychotropic substances were incinerated by the CGST and Customs Field Formations. There were 42,054.104 kilogrammes of various narcotic compounds destroyed, as well as 1710845 tablets, 72757 bottles of cough syrup, and 16,336 injection vials.

India’s Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, was virtually present throughout the episode.
