According to sources, the Liquor price in Assam is likely to increase, as State Government to compensate for the loss from value-added tax (VAT) reduction on Petrol-Diesel likely to hike Excise Duty on Liquor.
Earlier, the Assam government has reduced VAT on petrol and diesel by Rs 7 per litre with immediate effect on November 3, after the continuous rising of Petrol price with crossing over Rs 100 per litre.
The Government, however, is having losses after the reduction of fuel prices, to compensate for the loss the state government is likely to increase the price of Liquor.
Noteworthy that during the first wave of COVID-19, the price of the Liquor had gone up after the government decided to include a 25% cess on liquor, to meet healthcare expenses amid the pandemic. But later, the prices of the Liquor were reduced ahead of the Assam assembly election.
