The Assam Kaziranga University

Cabinet approval on February 8 paved the way for the doubling of the Agthori-Kamakhaya railway section, encompassing Saraighat Bridge over the Brahmaputra River and Lumding-Furkating.

The existing Saraighat Bridge, operational since 1964, will see enhancements, costing ₹1650.37 crores, with 41% funded by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The project includes a double-line track on the lower deck and a 3-lane road with footpaths on the upper deck. Additionally, the Lumding-Furkating section, part of the Lumding-Tinsukia-Dibrugarh doubling project, received approval with an estimated cost of ₹2333.84 crores.

These developments aim to benefit various districts in Assam and Nagaland, with the Cabinet approving a total financial outlay of Rs. 12,343 crores for six projects.
