Assam’s Ankushita Boro won the gold medal in her debut National Games.
Ankushita defeated fellow Northeast boxer Alena Thounaojam of Manipur to win the women’s 66 kg welterweight championship on Wednesday.
Ankushita, who is from Meghai Jarani Gaon in our state’s Sonitpur district, has won all of her fights at the National Games by decisive margins, with the exception of the semifinal matchup with Rajasthan’s Lalita. Despite that, she maintained her dominance over Lalita by earning her fourth straight victory in a head-to-head count.
