An American award-winning children’s book author Sophia Gholz’s book based on the true story of Forest man of Assam, Jadav Payeng has been shortlisted for the North Carolina Children’s Book Award.

The author Sophia Gholz expressed gratitude for the honour in a post on her social media profiles.

She wrote, “I’m so excited to share that The Boy Who Grew A Forest has been shortlisted for the North Carolina Children’s Book Award! Wow! Thank you for this honor. I hope the students in North Carolina find inspiration in Jadav Payeng’s story.”

The book, ‘The Boy Who Grew A Forest,’ is based on the true story of Assam’s Jadav Payeng who on his own cultivated nearly a thousand acres of beautiful forest on a once-barren island.

The book has previously received numerous awards, including the Florida State Book Award, Green Earth Book Award, CBC Notable Social Studies Trade Book for Young People, Eureka! Nonfiction Children’s Book Honor Award, Nile Delta Book Award, SONWA Award, Young Children’s Literature, SCBWI Crystal Kite Award, Keystone State Literary Award, and others, to name a few.
