An auction centre in Jorhat sold ‘Pabhojan Gold Tea,’ a rare variety of organic tea from Assam’s Golaghat district, for Rs 1 lakh per kilogramme on Monday, the highest price this year.

The tea sold by Pabhojan Organic Tea Estate was purchased by Esah Tea, an Assam-based tea brand, according to an official from Jorhat Tea Auction Centre (JTAC).

Pabhojan Gold Tea is created from the best second flush tips harvested from the tea estate, and has a beautiful golden beverage with a relaxing aftertaste. The tips turn golden, giving the beverage a distinct colour.

Bijit Sarma, the CEO of Esah Tea, said the tea variety will enable them to give one of the best tea blends from Assam to its customers.

This tea variety is rare and for, he said, “tea connoisseurs, this is an experience in a cup. Our customers are spread across the globe and will understand the taste and value of this variety. We are glad to be able to continue with our mission to provide them with authentic Assam tea flavours.”

Rakhi Dutta Saikia, the owner of Pabhojan Organic Tea Estate, remarked, “We produced only one kg of this rare variety of tea and are delighted at this new record-breaking price which has created history. The price it fetched is something that will help the Assam Tea industry regain its lost fame.”

Following significant demand from discerning consumers, tea enthusiasts, and buyers for this type of premium quality specialty tea, Saikia created this variety for the first time, she informed.
