Guwahati’s old Panbazar Flyover has been shut down for demolition starting March 9. Commuters are directed to use the alternate flyover, initially a one-way route, now converted into a two-way road until the new flyover’s completion in approximately nine months.
The decision to demolish the 58-year-old structure was prompted by Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) to comply with Indian Railway guidelines, ensuring a proper distance of 6.25 meters between tracks and the flyover, while the old Pan Bazar flyover fell short at 4.61 meters.
