In a groundbreaking development aimed at promoting electric mobility and embracing eco-friendly transportation, Tata Power, a prominent power company in India, has presented a pioneering plan to establish Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations across multiple regions in Assam. This forward-looking initiative perfectly aligns with the goals of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) policy.
In response to the proposal, the Chief Minister of Assam has directed the Transport Department to conduct a thorough evaluation of the proposal’s potential benefits for the state’s burgeoning EV market.
Under a joint collaboration between Tata Power and the Government of Assam, a network of Fast Charging Stations is set to be strategically placed at various key public locations throughout the State.
During the initial phase of the ambitious project, Guwahati, the capital city of Assam, is slated to receive ten charging points to kickstart the EV charging infrastructure.
As part of this venture, Tata Power will shoulder the responsibility for the installation and upkeep of the fast chargers, supported by an efficient charger management software system. This integrated approach is expected to streamline the charging processes and deliver an enhanced user experience for EV owners, making electric vehicles a more convenient and viable transportation option.
Tata Power has committed to exclusively maintain these charging stations for a period of five years, ensuring uninterrupted access to charging facilities for EV users in Assam.
To pinpoint the most strategic and accessible locations for these charging stations, a joint task force comprising the Government of Assam and Tata Power will work collaboratively. Their objective is to identify and finalize approximately 100 locations for the widespread deployment of these EV charging points across the entire State.
With this progressive move, Tata Power and the Government of Assam are set to revolutionize the state’s transportation landscape, making significant strides towards a sustainable and greener future, while bolstering the adoption of electric vehicles in the region.
