The Assam Transport Department has been on a mission to recover arrear taxes and fine vehicles that do not have up-to-date documentation.

According to reports, the Transport Department in Assam set a target of collecting Rs 1,061 crore in revenue, which would be divided among the District Transport Offices.

The District Transport Office Kamrup (M) has collected around Rs 265 crore in revenue till March 22, 2022.

The Assam Transport Department has yet to recover Rs 200 crore in arrears tax throughout the state, with Rs 70 crore coming from Guwahati alone.

The DTO Kamrup (M) was expected to receive Rs 327 crore by the end of the current financial year 2021-22, according to sources.

As the financial year comes to an end, the authorities have tightened their grip in order to reclaim unpaid taxes and penalize defaulters harshly.
