Police in Karimganj, Assam, detained a girl for reportedly attempting to kill her ‘lover’ by cutting his throat on Monday.

She was brought before a judge and placed in judicial custody on Tuesday.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Monday night near New Karimganj rail junction on the Karimganj bypass road, roughly 49 kilometres from Silchar.

The girl allegedly attempted to murder Rajesh Biswas, a married man from Karimganj’s Laxmicharan Road, by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon.

Locals raced to the scene as the youth began screaming after the attack. In critical condition, he was brought to Karimganj Civil Hospital. He was later transferred to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital for better care.

Rajesh’s father, Gurupada Biswas, filed an FIR with Karimganj Sadar police station.

A case was filed under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and an investigation was launched.

The married man and the girl were in a relationship, according to reports, but the man had kept his marital status disguised. Locals claim that after she learned about it, she determined to teach him a lesson.

They met on the Karimganj bypass road on Monday night, and the female struck him with a sharp weapon, seriously hurting him, according to reports.
